Born in Aberdeen, Rod served his apprenticeship in piano tuning and repair between 1966 and 1971 with the respected firm of Bruce Millers in that city.

In those days the workshop was behind the store in George Street and Rod remembers moving pianos from floor to floor with a hand pulled lift, sweeping floors with wet sawdust and the weekly bonfire in the yard of scrap pianos!

Spreading his wings, Rod moved south and joined Minns Music which later became Intermusic, today distributors of Bechstein Pianos. It was during this period at Southampton that Rod became involved in tuning the various pianos aboard the ocean liners that docked there including the eight grand pianos aboard the QE2.

Later, in a move north, Rod worked with Thomsons Music in various Sassenach strongholds such as Sheffield and Leeds before joining Yamaha Pianos at Milton Keynes.

It was at his time with Yamaha that Rod learned many new skills from Junichi Ono one of Yamaha’s top tuner/technicians. With a strong urge to be his own boss, Rod then opened his own piano business in Southampton.

Harwood Pianos ran very successfully for many years this time supplying pianos as well as tuning them for Cunard.

One of Harwood Pianos best selling pianos was Kemble Pianos so when he decided to dispose of his business it was to join the last British company making quality pianos.

By this time Rod’s two children had grown up and flown the nest so after some consideration in 2001 Rod and his wife moved back to their native north east Scotland and he found himself back where he started Bruce Millers! He felt this only right as after all they had started it all!

As 2007 was drawing to a close, Rod decided to do perhaps what he had always wanted to do and offer his services as a free lance piano tuner.

To this end he formed Rod Morrison Music with a view to providing a quality piano tuning service from his base at Stonehaven to customers in the coastal area between Aberdeen and Dundee.
